Between the sea and the pine forest finds its place the secondary school "Niccolò Pisano".
Despite its privileged location, the school building does not currently embrace the nearby presence of the sea, nor does it consider the unique context in which it is situated, acting as a strong visual barrier between the pine forest and the neighbourhood.
The design concept aims to bring the pine forest into the school grounds, transforming the tree canopies into "educational spaces" and creating a new site plan dominated by volumetric freedom with softened forms. This approach opens new perspectives towards the park, eliminating the old barrier between it and the urban space.
The pine forest extends into the project area, creating an "understory" that forms a fluid, completely open, and partially covered space. During school hours, this space serves as an atrium ("educational understory"), while outside school hours, it becomes a permeable link between the pine forest and the neighborhood ("public understory").
The sea also becomes part of the project through the element of the tower rising from the "educational canopies," seeking the most picturesque viewpoint and defining the characteristics of the new campus: the tree school overlooking the sea.
