Why We Chose Sharing

March 2025

One could say that the history of our studio begins before its birth, as it dates back to the history of two smaller studios: that of Galielo Menichini and Nicola Boccaccini, and that of Luca Niccolai and Chiara di Vecchio.
Perhaps it was fate that placed them face-to-face in the same building, but it was certainly a stroke of luck. In 2008, they decided to combine their forces, giving rise to a single entity based on a fundamental principle: collaboration. Both had years of experience behind them and a strong project identity, but they felt that the next step could only be sharing. Architecture, after all, is a continuous dialogue between spaces, people, and ideas. And that’s how our associated studio, GAA, was born: not as a simple sum of professionals, but as a laboratory of ideas where debate is the engine of every project.
Since then, collaboration has proven to be a winning choice, embraced by other architects who have joined over the years. Now, the studio counts twelve people and can still affirm the same: sharing gives solidity to projects and continually broadens its vision.

One principle, two beliefs. .
We firmly believe that unity is strength..
Every project begins with an open discussion, where skills, sensitivities, and visions intertwine to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Even though there is always one person who assumes the role of the main point of contact for the client, ensuring clarity and smooth project management, behind that figure, there is always a team, a network of thoughts and solutions that develop together. Continuous dialogue leads to higher results: every architect knows that the best project is never the fruit of a single intuition but the result of a collective reflection process that allows for exploring new perspectives and finding answers that, alone, would have remained in the shadows. .
Our vision of architecture is based on two principles that may seem opposing, but for us, they coexist in perfect balance: “Less is more” and “Sometimes daring means going deeper,” as the master Ettore Sottsass used to say. On one hand, the pursuit of essentiality and formal clarity; on the other, the awareness that, to break the rules, sometimes you must go deeper, reconsidering the fundamental points. This balance allows us to create spaces that are both minimal and functional, yet also full of character and depth.

The GAA Mark
One thing, however, is certain: every project must speak our language, and our language is the same for all the associate architects. A language made of studied proportions, carefully chosen materials, and solutions that are not only aesthetic but always oriented toward functionality. For us, beauty is a matter of balance, not excess, because first and foremost: everything must work.
We never forget that architecture is not just an aesthetic matter, but also a technical task, where precision and feasibility are essential.
Designing a house doesn’t mean just drawing a dream; it also means allowing the client to live it. This is why the design phase is always shared, while the management phase remains more individual: it’s a balance that allows us to guarantee a solid conceptual foundation for the projects without losing sight of operational efficiency.
And the same philosophy applies in our relationship with clients.
Every project is the result of an open dialogue, where sharing becomes the key to transforming an idea into a space that truly meets the needs of those who will live in it. Because, in the end, architecture is exactly this: a collective process, made of visions that meet and translate into shapes, spaces, and details that truly work.
